§ 5-8.1. Hours of work and overtime compensation.

Latest version.
  • Most employees in Halifax County work a 37.5 hour per week schedule, Monday through Friday. Hours worked by a non-exempt employee over 37.5 must be authorized in advance by a supervisor. Generally, based on FLSA terms, hours worked includes all time an employee must be on duty, or on the employer's premises or at any other prescribed placed of work for the county. There are additional U. S. Department of Labor approved work schedules to allow the county to adequately provide services, health, law enforcement, and safety for our citizens.

Effective April 15, 1986, the Supreme Court declared state and local governments subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). New: The Fair Labor Standards Act has been amended throughout the years, with the most recent rule and regulation changes effective on August 23, 2004, 29 CFR Part 541. The information within Supplement 6 is in accordance with that ruling.
