§ 6-3.6. Annual leave, manner of taking.

Latest version.
  • Annual vacation leave may be taken as earned by the employee or in any other amount as desired by the employee, subject to the approval of his department head, provided no employee may take less than one hour of annual leave at any time. Department heads are to start charging to vacation leave those items that previously were charged to petty leave and have the option to charge less than one hour for those items previously charged to petty leave, except that the minimum amount of time charged for such leave shall be no less than 15 minutes. No employee shall be granted annual leave in excess of his accrued leave, except in cases of extreme emergency and as approved by his department and the county manager. It is recommended, taking into account the workload and requirements of the department, that employees take five (5) consecutive days in a calendar year, however, this is not mandatory. All personnel in positions of trust, particularly where the management of funds is involved, will be required to take a vacation of at least five consecutive days during the year, at which time their duties will be performed by others who have been cross trained in those duties.

If an employee is away from their duties for at least five consecutive days due to illness and their duties were performed by someone else, they will not be required to take an additional five days of vacation time to meet this requirement
