Latest version.
  • Purpose. To provide an-opportunity for employees to assist another affected by a medical condition that requires absence from work for a period of time resulting in possible loss of income due to lack of accumulated leave.

Policy. In cases of a medical condition an employee may apply for or be nominated to become a recipient of leave transferred from the vacation or sick leave account of another employee. The intent is to allow one employee to assist another in case of a crisis. It is not the intent of this policy to apply to incidental, normal, short-term medical conditions.

To receive this assistance, the requesting employee must be in permanent status and have completed one full year of service.

He/she must make a formal application to the agency/department head giving a description of the medical condition and estimated length of time needed.

He/she must have exhausted all of their own personal annual and sick leave before making this request.

The agency/department head will review request and forward to the county manager, with their recommendations, for final approval.

Contributing employees are limited to giving two days from their annual or sick leave and can only donate once in a 12-month period.

Withdrawals from recipient's leave account will be charged to the recipient's account according to usual leave policies.

Banking of sick leave for future sicknesses is not permitted.

Any unused sick leave that has been donated remaining after the emergency will be forfeited.

Recipient can receive up to 30 days per emergency.
