§ 6-14. CHILD'S SCHOOL ACTIVITY LEAVE

  • In accordance with Chapter 509 of the 1993 Session Laws amending G.S. 95-28.3 to require all North Carolina employers to grant at least four hours of leave per year for parents, guardians, or any person standing "in loco parentis" of a school-aged child to attend or be involved in activities at the child's school, Halifax County Government will, effective December 1, 1993, provide such leave as follows:

    1.

    Grant unpaid leave with written documentation from the school that the employee attended during time of leave (Use standard Leave Request form).

    2.

    Employee must provide a written request 48 hours in advance of the desired time for leave.

    3.

    Leave shall be at a mutually agreed upon time by the employer and employee.

    4.

    In lieu of leave without pay, the employee may elect to take vacation leave for the same purpose.

    It shall be the department head's responsibility to monitor such leave, attach the standard leave request to the monthly time sheet and note on the time sheet that this is unpaid leave time.
