§ 38-26. Created; membership; terms.

There is hereby created a community relations commission to be known as the Halifax County Human Relations Council. The council shall consist of 15 members who are to be appointed by the county commissioners, to represent each township of the entire county. Members shall be representative of the White, Black and Indian races. No race shall have a majority on the council. The members of the council shall be appointed for terms of three years each, except for the initial appointments, which shall be as follows: five of the members appointed by the county commissioners shall serve for three years; five shall serve two years; and five shall serve one year. Members may be reappointed only once and appointments shall be for terms of three years or to fill vacancies for the remainder of a term vacated.
