§ 22-41. Compliance with codes and minimum requirements.

  • (a)

    All buildings or structures which are constructed, reconstructed, erected, altered, extended, enlarged, repaired, demolished, or moved after June 1, 1992, shall conform to the requirements, minimum standards, and other provisions of either the 1994 Standard Building Code with North Carolina amendments, Volume I and Volume I-C, or Volume I-A.

    (b)

    Every new, remodeled or relocated building or structure intended for human habitation, occupancy or use shall have plumbing, plumbing systems or plumbing fixtures installed, constructed, altered, repaired or reconstructed in accordance with the minimum standards, requirements, and other provisions of the 1994 Standard Plumbing Code with North Carolina amendments, Volume II.

    (c)

    All mechanical systems consisting of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, fuel burning equipment, and appurtenances shall be installed, erected, altered, repaired, used and maintained in accordance with the minimum standards, requirements, and other provisions of the 1994 Standard Mechanical Code with North Carolina amendments, Volume III.

    (d)

    All electrical wiring, installations and appurtenances shall be erected, altered, repaired, used and maintained in accordance with the minimum standards, requirements, and other provisions of the North Carolina Electrical Code.

    (e)

    Electrical service changes or alterations, minimum required. A minimum of two 115-volt receptacles shall be installed in every habitable room and a minimum of three 115-volt receptacles shall be installed in the kitchen area; any existing wiring, lights or receptacles shall be brought up to a safe and workable standard; and any electrical safety hazard shall be corrected.

    (f)

    All vertical lifting devices erected, installed, altered, repaired or reconstructed shall conform to the requirements, minimum standards and other provisions of chapter XXIV of the 1994 Standard Building Code, with North Carolina amendments.

    (g)

    All mobile home setups shall conform to the 1995 Regulations for Manufactured/Mobile Homes Code.

    (h)

    The fire prevention code shall apply to the repair, equipment, use, occupancy and maintenance of every existing building or structure. The provisions of the fire prevention code shall apply to the installations of fire prevention systems for new buildings or structures, except as exempted by section 103 of Volume V.
